Is paramedical good for me?

Let’s see if paramedical is a good career choice for you. Whether a career as a paramedic is good depends on the salary, work schedule, and pension system it provides. All of these factors depend on your state and the agency.

I also know people who were able to make $60,000 per year as paramedics, but that was in a place where costs were higher and the standard of living was much better. In paramedics, the pay is not bad (about $45,000/year) but the working conditions are miserable. Most paramedics work 12-hour, 12-days-on, and 12-days-off shifts, which is a gruelling schedule for anyone. Placement from a good paramedical institute might reward you a handsome salary.

Worse, for paramedics in some places, it’s almost impossible to find a full-time job. The typical hours worked per week is 56 and the average income from other jobs was $38,000. Most medics have to work a second or third job to make ends meet. The paramedic profession is notorious for causing burnout. It’s often referred to as “The White Coats,” right along with doctors, lawyers, and surgeons. And the stress of the work, especially the stress of the job, is the culprit.

With that in mind, paramedical is a very high-impact occupation and is therefore satisfying. What it means is that there are people in the field of emergency medical care who think they know better than you and me how we should care for ourselves. They have reasons to think that they can tell us what we should eat, what exercise routines are best for keeping us healthy, and even what supplements and vitamins we should be taking.
